BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge 2009

On day 2 of the live lounge tour, and it's JLS day! We're at Aston and Marvin's house in North London. It's another beautiful rock'n'roll pad, built in an old Victorian lunatic asylum.
The house is littered with JLS memorabilia - a framed copy of MusicWeek from the week they were number one, loads of books and photos. Jo set JB and Oritse the task of finding three items of treasure around the house - one to embarrass, one to reminisce, and one piece of JLS memorabilia. It gave us the chance to rummage around the house - see the photos for me.
Jo got a chance to sit in Aston's car - no, not an Aston Martin, but still very smart with a lovely red interior. The boys spent a lot of time rehearsing for today, so it was always going to sound brilliant.
The boys performed their hit single Beat Again, and its B-side, the Rihanna track Umbrella. They then did a brand new cover, a re-working of Lily Allen's The Fear (with a little bit of Beyonce mixed in for good measure).

We're in Leicester at Serge's house for the first date of this year's Live Lounge tour. It's a beautiful old school building with big high ceilings - perfect acoustics for a band to play live.
Serge showed Jo his awesome old jukebox, which he bought complete with its collection of old 7" singles. Some of them are a bit old and knackered though, and he couldn't get it working for us - apparently Monster Mash is usually a favourite though.
The band are huge Leicester City fans, and there's a shrine to their beloved team in the kitchen - a massive canvas print of the moment Steve Walsh scored the winning goal against Derby County in the 1994 play off final. In tribute to this, we had a game of penalties in the garden, which Jo was surprisingly good at!

Mini Viva 9 Sept 2009
Mini Viva were in the Live Lounge today - they performed their single 'Left My Heart In Tokyo' and a cover of Nneka's Heartbeat.
The girls explained that the name 'Mini Viva' came from their own nick names for each other. Britt got the name 'mini' after wearing a polka dot dress like Mini Mouse's and Frankee is Viva because Britt says she's bright and beautiful.
Britt revealed she was a nightmare at school and got suspended for locking her French teacher in a cupboard (don't try this at home kids - it's not big or clever!) She's also spent �460 on a handbag! Considering, the girls were up at 5am getting their hair (and cover) ready for today's Live Lounge, they're looking pretty good!

Jamie and the Pacemakers (his band) came into the Live Lounge and performed single Chaka Demus and a cover of Beyonce's 'If I Were A Boy'.
Three top facts for you - Jamie explained he was going to call the single 'Touch The Sky' until his friend convinced him it was rubbish. He made an appeal for his missing shoes after he went crowd surfing at the Reading Festival and came back minus shoes and sunglasses. And apparently Jamie recorded part of his album in his garden shed with a baby fox that made its home in there.

Paramore 4 Sept 2009
Paramore came into the Live Lounge and performed their new single Ignorance and a cover of Kings of Leon's Use Somebody.
They spoke about how Ignorance is the song that saved the band and their relationships, after 'personal problems' led to their tour being cancelled last year.Hayley said writing it was the theraputic process they all needed to focus on what they want from Paramore.
On a lighter note, since being in the UK Josh and Taylor have discovered they love Shepherd's Pie and Sunday Roasts! Taylor said his celebrity date would be Whoopi Goldberg, while Hayley would like to go on a date with David Hasslehoff (maybe we can get Scott Mills to set them up).

Little Boots 19 Aug
Little Boots came into the Live Lounge and performed her new single Remedy and a cover of JLS's Beat Again
She talked about how on a recent trip to Japan she had a fancy massage that involved lots of fish eating her feet and that her name comes from having very small feet (size 2 and a half).
She has to buy kids trainers and joked she even has a pair with those flashing lights in the soles.
Everytime she meets up with Florence off of the Machine she ends up drunk and if she wasn't a singer she'd be a gardener.

Calvin Harris 12 Aug 2009
Calvin and band performed his single 'Ready for the Weekend' and covered Kasabian 'Fire'.
He was down at Maida Vale with his band including the lovely Mary who provides all the vocals on 'Fire'. Calvin was playing the keys.
He revealed his top tip of how to open a banana properly.
They also talked about his Jam TV on Youtube where he films "celebrities" opening jam jar lids. Katy Perry is among them.
Calvin told Sara that he sent the music for 'Holiday' to The Saturdays originally but they didn't want to use it, however Dizzee had the vision and took it on.
He also revealed that he has 60% bran and 40% corn for breakfast everyday as it keeps him regular

This morning Tinchy brought Amelle from Sugababes and their 'fleee' crew to Maida Vale for a fantastic Live Lounge performance. (Flee is Tinchy-speak for fly).
They performed their single, 'Never Leave You' and did a covers mash up of Beyonce's 'Sweet Dreams' and JLS' 'Beat Again'
They talked about how they ended up working together, Tinchy's Twitter beef with Calvin Harris, his love of football and gaming and his prized Donald Duck inspired bling (!)

Fightstar 23 July 2009
Fightstar came into the Live Lounge and did their single, 'Never Change' and covered Jordin Sparks, 'Battlefield' after hearing Jo say she'd love someone to cover it one day.
Charlie talked about his Busted days and how hard it was to convince the critics when Fightstar first started out. He described one instance where Omar had a rotten fish thrown at him at Download festival whilst they were performing! But all the grief and rotten fish were worth it as they're now on their third album.
He also told Jo how he was responsible for nearly missing their performance at Reading Festival. It was the Kerrang! awards the night before and he was a bit worse for wear. He woke up with his band mates standing over him and he had 86 missed calls on his phone!!

Gaslight Anthem 1 July 2009
Gaslight Anthem came into the Live Lounge and performed their new single The '59 Sound and a cover of Kelly Clarkson's I Do Not Hook Up.
They talked about their musical influence and pal, Bruce Springsteen - apparently "he's like your dad but cooler!".
They told Jo why performing at Glastonbury is so important to them - essentially it's "because it's legendary and a big deal in America". They planned on doing it properly too - camping out in the fields with all the punters to have the complete Glasto experience.

La Roux 23 June 2009
La Roux came into the Live Lounge and performed Bulletproof and a cover of White Lies' Fairwell to the Fairground.
Speaking to Jo, she explained how she loves her hometown of London and doesn't like to be away from it for too long. She also revealed that she loved cricket when she was at school.
This weekend will be her first time at Glastonbury, as she made a pact with her sister years ago that she wouldn't go until she was performing at the festival

Black Eyed Peas 22 May 2009
They performed their Number 1 single Boom Boom Pow and Will.I.Am's Heartbreaker (sadly Cheryl Cole was busy on tour).
Will.I.Am and Apl.De were out clubing till 6am on the morning of the Live Lounge and only got 3 hours sleep! Fergie was well behaved and had a facial and massage followed by an early night.
The music they're loving at the moment - Empire of the Sun, MGMT and Calvin Harris, who Will has worked with. Fergie has been busy filming a musical called Nine which was filmed in Pinewood Studios which also stars Daniel Day Lewis, Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman. They're going on tour with U2 across the States and Will describes Bono as the 'Superist!'

Nickelback 20 May 2009
Nickelback came into the Live Lounge and performed Rock Star and a cover of OneRepublic's Stop and Stare (they also did their new single, but we're saving that for later).
They told Jo how they each have their own tour bus, and that the secret to their longevity is having fun and laughing lots together.
Chad was surprised to hear that his hair is a popular topic of conversation on forums. Plus, their mums will sell pics of them to the papps!

Daniel Merriweather came into the Live Lounge and performed his new single Red and a cover of La Roux's In For The Kill.
He revealed that he slept on Mark Ronson's floor in New York for 3 months when they were working on the first album. In honour of the new Scout Chief, Bear Grylls, Daniel revealed he can tie lots of knots. And he also told Jo about how he nearly died back home in Australia

Asher Roth 12 May 2009
The very lovely Asher Roth performed a squeaky clean version of his single, I Love College and a hilarious cover of Black Eyed Peas' Boom Boom Pow.
Asher said he feels the healthiest he's been in two years! Whilst being in the UK for a busy 10 days of promo he's been getting early nights (2am) and drinking lots of tea.
He told Jo about being discovered on MySpace and being flown over for a meeting at DefJam. He also talked about his buddy Akon and how he loved performing at R1BW. He also did an acapella version of the Prince of Bel Air theme tune and expressed a lot of love for his favourite cartoon character Doug Funny.

The Script 7 May 2009
They did an amazing performance of their single We Cry and a cover of Foo Fighters Times Like These. Danny, Mark and Glen were in great form having just flown in from New York from touring with Adele, and they got to celebrate her 21st birthday with her on stage!
They bought her a zippo lighter with a picture of a shamrock on one side, a picture of New York on the other and had the date engraved on it with "Happy Birthday love The Script!"
They're really looking forward to playing the main stage at the Big Weekend on Saturday - they said it�s the only thing worth coming back from America for.
They're also looking forward to being side of stage to watch Dizzee Rascals' set! They talked about not being a photogenic band and there's no plans to hire a stylist either!
They prefer not being on the cover of their album - they'd rather let their music speak for itself
